Published in paperback by Headline on Thursday, 13 August 2015.

I would like to thank the publishers for my copy of this book, in return for an honest review.

Eve Elliot is living in limbo. She has been murdered and her body has spent more than a week lying in a London park, until it is discovered early one morning by a man walking his dog. Six years ago Melody was brutally attacked and left for dead. The only  thing linking the two cases is a necklace in the shape of a bird in a cage. Melody is finding it hard to cope knowing that her attacker is out there somewhere. The only way Melody can survive is by following and finding the clues that Eve has left for her.

I adore the cover of this book. It's very eye-catching and it is exactly the kind of cover that would make me pick this book up off the shelf is I saw it for sale in a bookshop. It ties in perfectly with the story and I love how the necklace is on the cover. The white and yellow writing really stands out against the dark blue background and the shadow of the birdcage makes it eerie and chilling. It is beautifully designed and a cover that will stay with me.

The book is split into three parts and is told from the point of view of Eve, who is dead and telling her story, Melody, who has survived a vicious attack and is trying to build her life back up and the police woman who is investigating the case, DI Victoria Rutter. The story moves backwards and forwards through time in places, giving us good background information on the characters. The various twists and turns throughout the book are perfectly executed and keep you guessing throughout. The more I read of this book, the harder it got to put it down. You won't be able to read just one chapter!

From the very first page, this book will grab you and suck you in, until you become part of the story yourself. This book is dark and creepy and is full of emotion from start to finish. It also has the mystery element to it- did the same man commit both crimes? - which kept me on the edge of my seat. No matter how much I tried to guess the outcome, I never any of the twists and turns coming. The surprise factor keeps you turning the pages and before you know it, you'll have this book read from cover to cover. As the book progresses and Melody and Eve's worlds start to collide, the more interested you will become.
A suburbly written, intense psychological thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Colette McBeth has created a wonderfully dark and dense world, that blur the lines between fact and fiction more and more with every turn of the page. I cannot recommend this book highly enough. You will not be able to put it down.
